Its placement keeps the tied ends inside your shorts during close contact. There are no pockets or zippers to catch fingers during grappling.

Machine wash them inside out in cold water according to the care label, then air dry completely. Washing after each session removes sweat and residue that contribute to odor. Take damp shorts out of your gym bag promptly and avoid high heat when drying.
